A Sleek, Modern Rear Extension Executed to the Highest Standard.
The Scope: This project in Norden focused on creating a high-quality, light-filled living space. We built a single-story rear extension featuring a bespoke flat roof system, an expansive roof lantern, and wide bi-fold doors to seamlessly connect the interior with the outdoor patio.
Phase 1: Groundworks & Concrete Slab
Every flawless finish starts below ground. We cleared the site, laid the blockwork foundations, and installed a heavy-duty damp proof membrane (DPM) along with steel reinforcement mesh. We then poured and precisely levelled a solid concrete floor slab to provide a perfect base for the new extension.
Phase 2: Superstructure & Timber Framing
With the slab cured, we built the cavity walls and installed the heavy structural steelwork (RSJs) necessary to bridge the wide opening for the bi-fold doors. Our joiners then took over to install the timber roof joists, carefully framing the large structural aperture required for the roof lantern.
Phase 3: Flat Roof Weatherproofing
A flat roof requires meticulous sealing. We applied a high-performance, seamless weatherproofing system over the timber deck, ensuring the upstands around the lantern aperture and the roof edges were perfectly watertight before integrating the drainage.
Phase 4: The Flawless Finish
The final result is striking. We installed highly efficient, dark grey aluminium bi-fold doors that completely open up the corner of the house. Inside, the space was expertly plastered, featuring integrated LED strip lighting around the roof lantern to create a modern, luxurious atmosphere day or night.
