The Brief The homeowners wanted to radically change the way they lived. Their goal was to move away from cramped, separate rooms and create a bright, open-plan heart of the home that connected seamlessly with the garden. They needed a team that could handle everything—structural knock-throughs, a large rear extension, and the high-end carpentry required to finish the look.
Phase 1: Foundations & Structure A job of this scale starts in the ground. We handled all excavations and poured the concrete footings before commencing the block and brickwork. The critical moment in this build was the installation of heavy structural steel beams (RSJs). This allowed us to safely remove the original rear walls of the house, instantly opening up the floor plan to create one expansive space.
Phase 2: Roofing & Light To ensure the new space felt open and airy, we constructed a pitched roof system incorporating multiple Velux skylights. This floods the new kitchen area with natural light throughout the day. We finished the exterior with high-quality tiling and render to ensure the new extension blended perfectly with the existing property.
Phase 3: The “AB Joinery” Standard As joinery specialists, this is where we truly add value. We didn’t just build the shell; we crafted the character of the interior:

Bespoke Staircase: We removed the dated original stairs and installed a completely new timber staircase, opening up the hallway.

Feature Panelling: To bring warmth and texture to the living areas, we installed custom floor-to-ceiling wainscoting/panelling.

Media Wall: We framed and finished a custom media wall to house the TV and fireplace, creating a clean, modern focal point without messy wires.
Phase 4: The High-End Finish The project was completed with the installation of a premium shaker-style kitchen with a large central island. We laid continuous flooring to unify the space and installed aluminium bi-fold doors that peel back to merge the indoor living space with the garden.
